Jill O'Boyle (00:02.296)
Hey friends, welcome back to Your Life, Your Story, Rise Up Podcast. I'm your host Jill and you know, after a summer pause, I am back. I am back, I'm refreshed, I'm refocused and I'm ready for this next season as we head into the final stretch of the year. I cannot believe that we are about to head into fourth quarter. Like how did that happen?

So I took an intentional break from the podcast, as you might have noticed, for the month of July and August. Our calendar was so full this summer and with kids home and the craziness of our schedule, just really just gave myself permission to just push hold on some things to just allow me to free up some time back in my day, spend more time with my kids, be more present with them.

because let's be honest, really, it's not conducive to record a podcast when you got two young boys in this house. It's a little, little loud, little loud. So did myself a favor, did yourself a favor so you can have a clean podcast to listen to. So listen, hey, if you took a break this summer, if you took a little breather this summer, like this is your just gentle nudge to say that it is OK to step back so that you can step forward with intention.

I wanna kind of lean into that topic today, like taking just an intentional step back so that you can step forward. the beginning of this month, the kids went back to school. So at this time I'm recording, it's end of August. So kids went back to school like that first week of August and perfectly placed in that time that the kids were going back to school is something my church does twice a year, which is the 21 days of prayer. So it's getting up.

at 6 a.m. to pray, seek God. They do this twice a year, once in August, once in January. And it's always, of course, placed at the perfect time, right? When we just need that reset. Summer was crazy for us with baseball season and just sports schedule. And just, I think everybody kind of gets off their routines and habits in the summer months.

Jill O'Boyle (02:29.417)
And I felt like that was taking place for me, too. I just felt like I wasn't seeking my normal morning routine as I usually do. I because we were always at the baseball field. My church attendance was down. I was watching online. But for me, just there's something about being in the presence of the Holy Spirit at a church. So.

This month has just been a great reset. It's just been awesome to just be in the presence of God each morning, listening intentionally for what He is speaking to me. We get so busy in this world where we just go and go and go. Sometimes we ask God for forgiveness. We do things without even thinking or seeking His direction. I know I do. So I love that Heartland Church does this.

21 days of prayer. It's really a great reset. And so I took that this month to just kind of have that break and just pointing my heart back to God. And what I love is that while I did that, he just stirred up so much in me and just pointed me back to my heart and back to why I do this work. And that is helping high achieving women live with intention and aligned to their God given purpose.

It is 100 % what I was created to do, what I was made to do, 100 % that I absolutely love it. Because I think when we get in the motions of just the busyness, we kind of forget like, does it matter? Does what I'm doing really change lives? I having an impact? And so maybe you feel that right now for you, like you've been going through the motions and there's a lie in your mind that's saying, you know, does any of this really matter?

Or maybe it is an important reminder that says, does any of this matter? When I was at corporate, I got to a point where I literally had to stop and say, what am I doing? Is anything I'm doing making a difference? And that was a nudge for me to say, no, I need, there's something more here. Well, this past weekend, August 16th was the 828 retreat.

Jill O'Boyle (04:43.573)
And wow, my gosh, wow. Let me just tell you, women came, connections and friendships were formed, there were tears, there was laughter, and the Holy Spirit moved in a big way, a way that I just can't even put it into words. And to be honest, I needed this retreat just as much as the women that came needed it to. I was so emotional at this retreat, like,

The women that were there will tell you like I opened it up and I just tears were flowing of of just gratitude and joy and just emotion because I had already been praying all month long for this day for this retreat for these women and I could just feel that he was going to do something that he's never done before. And that's exactly what he did. He moved in ways that I couldn't have imagined. He was weaving stories together that only moments that he could just

create, know, or orchestrate. So it was just a beautiful retreat. so as I was in my quiet time that evening, going to bed, I was reflecting on the on the retreat and the entire weekend, was Sunday continuously thinking about this day. And I came to basically four things that really, really stood out to me about this weekend. And I think it's four things that

God is wanting me to remind you of as well. And so let's break those down and just tune into this, write these down, because I think it's something that you need to hear. So the first thing that just kept replaying to me was, wow, this soft whisper, that soft whisper that felt so crazy four years ago, five years ago, trust it.

Trust it. Like maybe in your project management, high achieving mind like mine is, it doesn't really fit in that spreadsheet. It doesn't make sense. It's not calculating. It's not adding up.

Jill O'Boyle (06:54.359)
Trust it. Maybe it really doesn't impress the room. It doesn't really impress the people closest to you, your family or friends. Maybe you have some naysayers when you said, hey, you know, I heard something from God and they said, I don't know. Trust it. Don't trust them. Trust what God is saying to you. Because when God, God breeze on ideas, let me tell you, it just carries a piece in a pool.

And so I would say if your heart's been nudged in a direction that just seems super crazy wild, just bring it to him. Like test it in scripture. Like seek him. And I promise you, he's gonna give you the next faithful step. And I promise you it might not look like anything you thought you'd be doing. Believe me. I can stand here today and be like, I would never think that this is where God would lead me. But the joy in my heart. My gosh, the joy in my heart from Saturday.

knowing that God chose me to lead women and to be able to tell stories, vulnerable stories, and just be able to speak life over them and tell them that who they are and how God has created them and that they have a purpose and they were created on purpose for our purpose, like fuels me in ways that I can't even express. so. Number one. That soft whisper that you hear that feels a little crazy, I want you to trust it. OK, the second thing that keeps.

replaying in my mind that God is reminding me of is if it doesn't look good yet, just keep going. Like his ways and his thoughts are higher. Let me tell you, there has been so many times that I just wanted to stop this journey. So many times that the enemy would get into my head and say, Jill, you really think you're making a difference? What are you doing? Is this really a business? You know, like all these lies.

So if it doesn't look good yet, keep going. It might not look like where I wanted it to look, right? Like in my mind, I'm like, no, it needs to be bigger. needs to be this. needs to look like this. Well, that's not God's way. And he is master, like he is weaving together, you know, a tapestry. And so if you think about that, when you put together like a rug and you are like knitting, you can tell I don't know what I'm talking about, but I'm, I'm gonna have the vision in my head cause I do not knit or sew or anything, but I have the vision where

Jill O'Boyle (09:19.915)
on the back of like a really cool quilt. That's what I'm trying to say, quilt. It's like not real pretty, right? And then you flip it over and you see the front of it is beautiful. Okay. Well, that's like our life, right? Behind the scenes, our life looks like a mess. It does not look like anything special, but all of those threads, he is weaving it together to make something absolutely beautiful and just wait, keep going.

and watch as his ways and his thoughts are so much higher than you could ever imagine.

So maybe today you are in like a messy middle right now. Like you have just planted that seed and you're like, okay, I'm trusting this. I'm gonna plant the seed and let's see where it goes. And right now you're looking at it you're like, yeah, I see a bunch of dirt. I see a lot of dirt. And Jill, I just keep watering it. I keep watering the same dirt and nothing is springing up. Nothing is happening.

Keep watering, keep nourishing it, keep seeking God, keep planting the seeds, like just keep showing up. Your story is not over. I promise you, your story is not over. Like it is just the beginning and God is writing plots and twists and turns in your timeline that you could never predict how any of this is gonna work out. But I promise you, just as my 828 retreat is based on Romans 828, all things, all things.

work together for the good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose. All things, right? So that's the good, the bad, the ugly, the mistakes, the failures, that thing that you keep so deep down inside that you don't want anybody to know that too. He is working it together for your good and he will bring it to fruition. I promise you, I promise you. So that's off whisper that feels crazy. That's number one, trust it. Number two, if it doesn't look good yet, just keep going, keep going.

Jill O'Boyle (11:18.005)
Number three, we are so much better together. I just kept looking around the room and God kept showing me how much better we are together. Like God knows how to uniquely connect us. He uses people in our lives to connect us and bring us together. I can talk about two of my volunteers, Sarah and Amanda. I mean, they just came alongside of me. They had attended my retreat last March.

They fell in love with the mission. They said, feels so on purpose for me. How can I get involved? And they were the perfect people to come alongside of me. They just, they knew the direction. They sought me for guidance, but they ran with it. It's exactly what I needed. When rain started happening at like middle of the morning and we're supposed to go outside for excursions and everything, like I'm leading, I'm talking, I'm doing what God has called me to do.

And while I'm doing that, they are orchestrating a backup plan. They have it all figured out by the time I get done. Like those are your wing people. And God knew exactly who needed to be with me on this journey. People that I could count on, people that I can trust, people that said, what you are doing matters. We're making a difference in lives and I want to know how I can be a part of it. He knows how to connect us. So a baseball mom.

to somebody that went to my retreat that became a client and I was on board and now she's walking her purpose out of revealing purpose. That is her two word purpose is revealing purpose, inspiring hope.

So I love it. I love how God just uniquely connects us. And as I watched that day unfold, I watched how women who never met each other looked across the tables at each other, looked at each other one eye or in their eyes and said, too. Me too, right? He knows how to place us at the right seat at the right time with the right people doing the right thing. He knows it all. And he was going to place women

Jill O'Boyle (13:21.957)
at their seats with people they didn't know that had same story maybe five years ago and they can look back at that person that's going through it right now and say, hey girl, me too. Let me tell you about five years ago. He uses community like a mirror and a net. It reflects truth back to you and it catches you when you're slipping. It catches you to say, my gosh, somebody sees me. Somebody sees me and they're here to catch me before I drift off.

Jill O'Boyle (13:53.94)
I love that. I love that this is what the retreat is doing, is bringing people together and taking us out of isolation because you guys, live in a world that is so connected more than ever with this technology. We are so connected, but we are more isolated than ever. I was listening to a podcast the other day and they were talking about research and they said, you know, the researchers say,

that we are in this loneliness epidemic. And the most difficult thing that we can do for our health outside of addiction and drugs, right? This is worse than drugs and addiction is loneliness. It's the worst thing that we can do for our health. And we are doing it. You just look around, you see everybody. We're at dinner together, but we're not together. We're glued in a phone, right? It breaks my heart. And I'm trying so

I, the other day I was talking and I said, I just want to go back to old days when I didn't even have a cell phone. I would love it if we just go back to a landline and we pick up the phone. Like, I know some of you hear that you're like, my gosh, no, what would I do? But honestly, I would love that we could just throw these electronic devices away. We could go back to the good old days where we could say, hey, meet me here at five o'clock. We actually show up at five o'clock. Like I'd love it. I really would. would. But then if technology went away, I wouldn't have a podcast. So, you know.

I do like all of you guys, You know, but so I digress. So that is three. We are better together. God knows how to uniquely connect us. The fourth thing he spoke over me, the fourth thing that I felt like he just kept reminding me, which you also need a reminder of, is that our purpose is permanent.

He created you on purpose for a purpose. He knew that purpose in your mother's womb. He knew you. He knows your purpose. He has plans for you, plans to prosper you, give you hope in a future.

Jill O'Boyle (16:00.385)
And your whole story is still working it together for your good. So our purpose is permanent. And so what really hit home to me is during the 828 retreat, we show some videos and we do a lot of reflection. And one of the videos I show is from a clip from my Made for More Bible study, which is amazing. And if you have not done the Made for More Bible study, you need to sign up. It's coming up in October.

But Jenny Allen, love her, love her. And in the Made for More Bible study, she said, I think we need to all stop worrying so much about the standing ovation that is right in front of us. And we need to focus on the eternal reward.

That stopped me in my tracks because I don't know about you, but we can get very, very, I can get very, very hung up on the standing ovation in front of me. Okay, well, if nobody's liking it, if nobody's commenting on what I'm doing, then maybe, maybe what I'm doing doesn't matter.

That's a lie. That is the lie. That's the enemy again, trying to get in your head to say, you see, you just posted all that. Nobody gave you likes. Nobody's commenting on that. You sound ridiculous. Like who cares? Who cares, right? Is what I need to start telling myself because that standing ovation means nothing.

when you are walking in your purpose and you're changing lives and you're making a difference and you're doing it for an eternal reward. Like I got home and the thing that kept bringing tears to my eyes was everything that we did together on that day is for eternal. Eternal. was for people to know who they are, how important and flipping amazing that you are and how God has created you on purpose. And we get so hung up on everything else in this world. We think everything else is such a big deal.

Jill O'Boyle (18:07.873)
I tell you, knowing that I have an eternal place to go after this life is so much more important than anything, anything on this world.

So the claps, the standing ovations of this world will fade. But that well done, good and faithful daughter, well done.

That matters and that is eternal. And so do the unseen things that the world is gonna tell you not to talk about or do like, just be obedient to what God is calling you to do. just, plain and simple, be obedient. If God says do it, do it. If it sounds crazy, do it. Just do it.

Okay, so I'm giving you those four things because they really, really are important for you to know, but I have to end with this, which is what happened on Monday. So we had this amazing retreat. I am just loving how God is just orchestrating the whole entire event. Like everything is happening right on purpose. The women there were the women that were supposed to be there. He sat them at the right tables with the right people. mean,

You can't make this stuff up, right? So I am just on a high. I'm just like, God, you are so good. And the fact that you chose me to be the leader, like it's hilarious, but I am so glad you chose me. Like I love leading people. It's what I've always loved to do from a little girl. I would get my neighbor, hey, girls. And despite what they wanted to do, I would make them do dances with me.

Jill O'Boyle (19:57.454)
I would, we put on recitals, we'd charge our neighbors, like you pay a dollar for a ticket to watch our show. Like when you think about your life as a little kid, honestly, I would ask you to go do this. This is something we do at the retreat. Go back to the things that, what did you love to do when you were a kid? What did you love to do when you were a kid? I bet it's not much different than maybe what you're doing now or still maybe what you're hoping to do, but just fear has gotten in the way from you to actually do it.

So I loved, I always wanted to be a real teacher when I was a young, young child, I would read to my teddy bears in my room. And then I quickly decided I was not gonna be a teacher because I didn't really like kids. I tried to go babysit and I was like, whoa, that is not for me. So these kids talked back, my teddy bears did not talk back. So not for me, nope, shut that down. Then I was like, well, I'm gonna go plan and orchestrate events. Like I'm gonna go work for a celebrity, like a country star.

and I'm gonna go do all of our lights and plan all their, we're gonna organize like when we're going to this city and this city and I'm gonna set the stage, I'm gonna do all this. Well, that didn't happen either, but what did happen was God brought me down a little bit and then I worked for event and marketing trade show company and did plan pretty cool, awesome events for a while. Also planned weddings back in the day. So I'm telling you this because he will weave parts of your story together, right?

So all those are giftings that I have, speaking, leading, creating. Those were all things that he was preparing me for to use in what I'm doing right now, Keynote speaker, podcaster, life coach, all of those, right? And then the theme around all those is using my life experiences to help move you forward, right? Taking what I learned.

and helping you apply it in your life. So whether that's going through burnout, whether that's going through some dark spots in your life, right? Like my story of infidelity and getting wrapped up and what the world thinks I should be and do. And then that journey of healing and transformation to what I'm doing now is just showing people that God is going to use all that pain and all those mistakes and all those hurt. And he's going to work it together for good. And I love it. I love it. Right. So.

Jill O'Boyle (22:24.001)
Back to Monday. So I'm reflecting on just how God has chosen me, the way of my life, all the things that have happened that, wow, here I would be.

And because God moved so deeply on Saturday and Friday of this past weekend, of course Monday came with a big hit, right?

So I am on a high and I want you to know that when you are drawing closer to what God is calling you to do, when God says, gives you an assignment and you go and do it, He is clapping up there, man. Him and His angels are just so on fire. They're like, we see you, you are making a difference, you're changing lives, you are doing what I called you to, way to go. But at the same time, what I want to remind you is there is a real enemy.

that is watching that same show. And he wants nothing more than to shut it down as quickly as possible.

His main goal is to steal and kill every amount of joy in your life. He does not want you to walk into that purpose. And so he will feed you a bunch of lies. So exactly on Monday, clockwork, how he shows up on a high Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday comes, the doorbell rings, he shows up literally with a certified letter from the IRS. That might get you a little scared, right?

Jill O'Boyle (23:59.854)
So immediately I opened it and I was like, oh, got it. Okay, it's all right. It's administrative error and nothing we can't get cleared up really quickly. Nothing that my God can't handle, right?

Well, I get on the phone only to be on hold for two hours.

for them to pick up and then hang up on me. Oh, that'll make you mad, right? Mm-hmm. So let that go, try it again the next day, we're now on Tuesday, on hold for another two hours, finally get somebody to answer the dang phone, only to talk to them and really get nowhere. They were no help at all, right?

So what is this? This is the point where now I'm angry. I'm getting mad. I'm getting frustrated. I have some anxiety creeping in and he's doing it purposely to get me distracted, to get me off course what will just happen. And so now that I'm in this state of anger and anxiety, now he can really talk to me, right? Now he can do his best trick that he knows in his book, which is talk lies over you.

So he's going to come and speak lies to you about your personal character. He's going to tell you that you're a failure. He's going to look at, well, did you look what you just did? Now you got to clean all this mess up. Do you really know what you're doing? Why don't you just shut it down? Quit being a mess. Go get a job for the love. That is real life spiritual warfare. It's not a joke. It happens. This is, this is so important to know because

Jill O'Boyle (25:41.152)
So many of us in our heart know exactly what we feel like God's calling us to do. But yet the enemy is so strong in your life that every time you get close, he pulls you off, he distracts you. And that's why so many of us feel like we are never fulfilled because he keeps pulling us back in.

Spiritual warfare is real.

Jill O'Boyle (26:07.147)
When the light breaks in, when you finally feel like, okay, my gosh, I have a breakthrough here, don't be surprised when resistance is gonna set in. He's gonna make it really hard. And my hope for you is that you will not let him do that. Please don't let him do that. Don't let him do it, right? So go back to your truth, go back to your word, go back to whatever is gonna get you back in that state and say, my God, but my God can handle this mess. All right.

So I had to bring that to you because it is very, very important. And I also just want to talk real quick about why retreats matter. These retreats are so incredible. If you've never experienced the H28 retreat, this was our fourth one. We'll be doing it again here in March. These retreats matter because it gives us space to actually quiet the noise of this world. It gives us space to be intentional.

to hear God, to be seen, and just to reset. And this is why community matters. Having a women's community around you matters because when Monday comes with that certified letter, I'm now not standing alone in all my fear and worry, right? I've got these voices reminding me of what just happened on Saturday. You I got people in my corner that I can call and they can tell me what is true.

I've got people that I can lean on that's gonna hold me up when my arms are really, really tired. Community matters.

Since leaving that retreat, we have formed some amazing friendships. Our Friday group that stayed overnight in the cabins, we laughed so hard on Friday till our cheeks hurt. We had so much in common. Just the way that got orchestrated that day, like my cheeks were hurting because we were laughing so hard, right? So from storytelling, we now have a group text that we call ourselves the Rock Group, the Rock Soup Group, just from

Jill O'Boyle (28:17.269)
a crazy story that happened, you had to be there. But here is what I'm talking about. These texts, like being able to reach out and have a community of women that is safe, that you know you can trust, and you can say, hey, I did this hard thing today. Or hey, I'm gonna take this next step. And you have those cheerleaders behind you say, you got this. Or you can reach out and say, you know what the enemy did today? Let's talk about this, let's laugh how hard.

how silly he thinks he is that he's gonna take me off track, sending me a certified letter. Really, come on. I wanna say try harder, but don't, because that really, really did frustrate me. I'm good, I don't need any more trials, enemy. You can just go away. All right, but honestly, that's how transformation's gonna stick with you when you are surrounded with women who are going to support you. One honest check-in at a time, okay? So.

If you are listening to this and you're thinking, I wish I would have been there. actually saw, I heard you talk about the A28 retreat. There was a nudge in my heart that really, really wanted to be there, but I couldn't because of X, Y, Z or my kids or this or whatever it is. You have an opportunity. So we host these at least twice a year. So the A28 retreat is going to return in March, March 2, 2026.

Final dates are not yet confirmed, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be that first week in March. So I think that's the March 6th or 7th. Right now, I have a link that just says, let me know you're interested. So I'm gathering interest now. So if your heart is pounding a little, don't wait, like raise your hand, click on the link, let me know that you're interested. All that's gonna do is gonna add you to the interest list so that I can keep you posted.

when the actual registration is up and available for you to sign up. So make sure that you click on that. It's in the show notes below. Just hit stay tuned for next retreat and then add your name to that list. Also, something that won't make you wait till March 26th is the Made for More Bible study. I can't tell you how amazing this Bible study is when you talk about community and people coming together. This is a Bible study that is

Jill O'Boyle (30:40.233)
It is awesome in that it's not intimidating. I don't know about you, but sometimes the Bible can be a little intimidating. So really this is a way, this is led by Jenny Allen. I lead it, but I use some of her video teachings. And what we're doing is we are just digging into your gifts, your calling, your purpose, alongside other women on a Zoom call for an hour for eight weeks.

I will tell you this will be so life-giving to you if you actually take the initiative to do it. Because you have women pouring inside of you, you have storytelling, just like we had at the retreat where it says, wow, really? You too? Okay, I don't feel so alone. We can talk about our gifts, our passions, we can talk about our sufferings, the hard things in our life, and how God is working it together for your good. So I love this Bible study, it's why I host it.

again, usually two times a year. putting together a link for that, we are gonna start that in October. So gauging interest on what dates, what times work best for everyone. Once I have that, then we create the nights that we're doing them. Like last time, I did an evening one and a day one. If you are somebody that is able to take an hour during the day at 10 o'clock, awesome.

If you have to wait till seven o'clock after you put your kids down, awesome. I wanna meet you where you are. So let me know what time works best for you. So that is called the Made for More Bible study. And then lastly, another thing to get you plugged in is one-to-one coaching. And I don't know if I've really talked about that much on this podcast, but if you didn't know, that is what I do. I'm a life coach for...

high achieving busy women who are looking to move from overwhelm and burnout to a life of intention and purpose. And so it is a one-to-one, we meet for 12 sessions, it's very focused, it's very personalized to you to help you gain clarity and courage and consistent actions to walk boldly in your purpose. So one-to-one coaching is just a remarkable experience because you have a coach that's outside of your friends, outside of your family that can like

Jill O'Boyle (33:02.775)
just shine a light on your life and not be biased and just be able to say, hey, here's what I see. Or hey, that happened to you, guess what? Me too. Like a lot of my clients, we are so relatable, that's why they choose to work with me. So if you feel that nudge, I ask you to just trust that and we'll just hop on a discovery call and let's just talk. So I offer those free 30 minute discovery call just to see where you're at.
